Hope you enjoyed tonight’s meeting! Here are the questions we didn’t have time to cover.
I have posted your questions here with video tutorials explaining the answers. If you have any more questions be sure to send me an email via the Contact page. Click on a link to play video tutorial in your browser, once it has downloaded in full your browser will play the video (may take a minute). Right click and choose “Save Link As” to download it.
“Question 1″
I’m unsure if the print department will open the file as a pdf or illustrator file so must ensure the file opens correctly eg. fonts, strokes etc. I have text with a paragraph rule, set above it with a dotted line. I need to convert the text to outlines. But… when I create outlines the text is outlined but the paragraph rule dotted line disappears. How can I convert all of it to outlines?
“Question 2″
This is just one of those niggly little things that i have put up with in InDesign CS3 for a while so if there is a way to fix i would appreciate it. How do i stop InDesign from highlighting custom tracing/kerning for good? I know how to take off (under preferences - composition) but it seems to just apply it to the current file I’m working on - is there a way to apply it for good and stop it doing it ever again?
“Question 3″
As a publication designer I am constantly copying subbed text from Word to InDesign. The problem is that the italic formatting in Word does not carry over to InDesign. Is it possible to include the italic formatting from Word when pasting text into InDesign.
“Question 4″
How do I link to a particular page on a PDF file when placing and relinking?
“Question 5″
I have the following problems using the Book feature in CS3. Crashes when exporting to PDF. Links to the wrong file (an older version) when I open the InDesign file from the Book palette. My question is: is this a common problem in CS3?*If you are having this specific problem, I recommend resetting InDesign’s preferences, then exporting all the InDesign files that made up your book to INX. After that open the INX’s and save over the old InDesign files and import them back into a NEW Book file. Its a bit of a process, I know… You should get a reasonable outcome in the end.

One Response to “InDesign User Group Melbourne Q & A”
I am using InDesign CS2. We have lots of documents previously drawn in PageMaker 6. I believe there is a way of opening the PM doc. in InDesign ?? Our IT dept. has misplaced my PM program !!
